Privacy Policy
In effect October 1, 2026 · version 2026-10
This English version is provided for convenience. If it differs from the French version, the French version prevails.
Meet First exists so people can meet for real. To do that, we need some information about you. This policy explains which information, why, who sees it, how long we keep it and how you stay in control. It follows Québec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Law 25) and the federal law (PIPEDA).
In short: no advertising, no sale of your data, no sharing for commercial purposes. Your location is only read when you post an availability and when you confirm your arrival. You can download your data and delete your account at any time, from the app.
1. Who is responsible
Meet First is operated by 9577-4618 Québec inc. (NEQ 1182628116), 101-1215, rue Shefford, Bromont (Québec) J2L 1C5, Canada.
The person in charge of the protection of personal information is the company's president. For any question or request: confidentialite@meet-first.app.
2. What we collect
What you give us
- Account: your mobile number (to sign in with a text code).
- Profile: first name, date of birth (only your age is shown), gender, short bio, and the details you choose to add: height, build, intention, children and custody, smoking, alcohol, diet, physical activity, education, occupation, pets, religion, languages.
- Photos and the verification selfie, checked by our team, with no outside provider. Before the selfie, a short challenge on your phone (turning your head, smiling, raising your chin) checks that you are in front of the camera: the challenge's images stay on your phone for less than a second each and are never sent; only the final selfie is, with the challenge's result and your consent.
- Search criteria and favourite outings.
- Availabilities: days, times, radius and activities.
- After a meeting: your label and your rating of the other person.
- Events you organise or sign up for.
- Reports you file and people you block.
- Preferences: notifications, language, height unit.
- Points: the points you earned (outing, event, referral, partner, date) and your choice for the community wall. They are computed from what the app already records; waiting-list referral points are carried to your account through your mobile number. They are kept as long as your account exists, then deleted with it, and they are part of the copy of your data.
- The messages you send us (support).
- Waiting list (meet-first.app website, before you have an account): first name, mobile number, email, city, your consent to be contacted about the launch, where the link you followed came from (for example a business or a poster), and the sign-ups made with your referral link. Optional: your gender and neighbourhood, used only to open access in balanced waves, neighbourhood by neighbourhood, and counted in aggregate: only the Meet First team can access them, and they are never shown to other members or shared; your separate consent to receive our news, kept with the text you accepted and the date. Your network address is not kept; only an encrypted fingerprint is used to limit abuse for one hour.
What the app records when you use it
- Location: only when you post or change an availability (starting point, to measure distances) and at check-in (to confirm you are at the venue). There is no continuous tracking.
- How dates go: invitations, announced arrival time, check-in, arrival hint, attendance or absence, and the resulting reliability.
- Ratings received, kept anonymously.
- Technical data: device type, app version, error and security logs.
What others send us
- Apple or Google: the state of your subscription (plan, dates, renewal). We never receive your payment card.
- Other members: their ratings and reports about you.
3. Why we use it
- To create your account and sign you in.
- To suggest compatible people, free at the same time and at a good distance, with both people's criteria met.
- To organise the meeting: choose the time and a public place, confirm arrivals, reveal labels.
- To measure reliability and keep the community respectful (ratings, reports, reviews).
- To check that each member is a real adult.
- To manage your plan.
- To send you notices about your dates (invitations, reminders, check-in) and, only if you say yes, news from Meet First.
- To keep the service secure, prevent fraud and comply with the law.
- To improve the app from statistics that do not identify you.
4. Your consent and your choices
- You consent to this policy by creating your account; we ask for your express consent for what is sensitive (selfie, location).
- By default, settings are the most protective: location is not read in the background and news from the team is turned off.
- You can withdraw your consent at any time: change or remove optional information, change your notifications (Settings), refuse location access in your phone settings, or delete your account. Some features are then no longer possible (for example, without location, no availability and no check-in).
5. What other members see
- The people you are suggested to, the ones you meet and those at the same event: your first name, age, photos, the optional details you added, your favourite outings, your reliability, the number of dates attended and your verification badges.
- Never: your last name, your date of birth, your number (unless you both agree to exchange it after a mutual Crush), your exact location, your individual ratings, the people you blocked or reported.
- Your label is only revealed to the other person once you have both chosen; a Crush stays secret until it is mutual.
- The community wall (in the app, members of your city only): if you have a medal, your medal and your points appear there (without any detail of where they came from), anonymously by default. Your first name and main photo appear only with your consent, asked at each new medal and withdrawable at any time in Settings. Your medal and founding member badge also show on your card to the people who can see it.
6. Automated decisions
Suggestions, the order in which they appear and your reliability are calculated automatically, from your criteria, other people's criteria, distance, attendance and punctuality at dates, and ratings received. You can ask us which information was used, the reasons for the decision, and ask for a person on our team to review it.
7. Who else has access
We do not sell or rent your information, and there is no advertising in Meet First. Only the following have access, as far as needed:
- Our providers, bound by contract to confidentiality and security:
- database and photo hosting (Supabase, Canada region);
- hosting of the meet-first.app website (Cloudflare);
- the team's email, when you write to us (Google Workspace);
- sending codes and notices by text message;
- phone notifications (Apple, Google);
- in-app purchases (Apple, Google).
- Partner venues: only the perk shown on your screen, when you show it; no personal information is sent to them.
- Authorities, when the law requires it or to protect someone in danger.
- A buyer, if the business is sold or merged, who will have to follow this policy.
8. Where your information is
Our database is hosted in Canada (Montréal). Some providers (website, email, text messages, notifications, app stores) may process it outside Québec or Canada. Before sharing information with them, we assess the privacy factors and ensure adequate protection by contract.
9. How long we keep it
- As long as your account exists, to run the service.
- When you delete your account, your information is erased immediately, along with your matches and dates. Only the following remain:
- reports about you, without any link to your account, for 2 years, for members' safety;
- security logs, for 1 year at most.
- Locations are only kept for the duration of the availability and the date.
- The verification selfie is deleted as soon as the team decides, and at the latest 7 days after it was sent; we only keep the date and the result. No template of your face is kept.
- The waiting list: until you sign up in the app, and at most 6 months after the app opens in your city; you can ask to be removed at any time by writing to support.
- Billing data is kept by Apple or Google under their own policies.
10. Security
- Connections are encrypted.
- Each member only has access to their own data: other people's data goes through functions that only show what is allowed.
- Photos are stored in a private space.
- Our team's access is limited to what it needs.
- We keep a register of privacy incidents. If an incident presents a risk of serious harm, we notify the Commission d'accès à l'information and the people concerned.
11. Your rights
You can:
- access your information and get a copy in a structured format: Settings → Download my data;
- have it corrected: directly in your profile, or by writing to us;
- withdraw your consent and have your information deleted: Settings → Delete my account;
- ask us to stop disseminating information or to de-index a link about you;
- be told about an automated decision and ask for it to be reviewed (section 6).
Write to confidentialite@meet-first.app. We answer within 30 days, free of charge. If you are not satisfied, you can file a complaint with the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec.
12. Minors
Meet First is for people 18 and older. An account belonging to a minor is deleted as soon as we learn of it. You can report it from the profile or by email.
13. Changes
We notify you in the app at least 30 days before a significant change to this policy. The effective date is shown at the top of the text.
